Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Policy
Purpose: To promote a safe campus environment by informing students of risks associated with exposure to bloodborne pathogens and outlining appropriate safety procedures.
Definition: Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms in human blood that can cause disease in humans. These include, but are not limited to, Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
Student Responsibilities
- Universal Precautions:
- Treat all blood and bodily fluids as if they are infectious.
- Do not handle blood or body fluids unless trained and authorized.
- Reporting Exposure:
- Any exposure to blood or bodily fluids must be reported immediately to a faculty member (if in classroom setting) or contact RVC Police Department immediately at 815-921-4357
- Students must complete an Incident Report and may be directed to health services or a local medical provider for evaluation.
